Terms of Use and Data Privacy Notice for Using HAWKI
Welcome to the guidelines for using HAWKI, which is based on the OpenAI API. These guidelines are intended to provide all members of the university community—students, lecturers, and staff—with clear guidelines on how to use this technology responsibly. Please note that this guide supplements the terms of use and privacy policies of OpenAI and does not claim to be exhaustive. It is the responsibility of users to comply with the terms of use.
General Provisions
What is prohibited:
- Entering personal data about yourself or others.
- Using the services for illegal, harmful, or abusive activities.
- Violating, misusing, or infringing upon the rights of others.
- Modifying, copying, renting, selling, or distributing our services.
- Attempting to reverse-engineer, decompile, or discover the source code or underlying components.
- Automatically or programmatically extracting data or output.
- Claiming that the output was created by humans when this is not the case.
- Interfering with or disrupting the services or bypassing security measures.
- Using the output to develop competing models.
What to consider:
You are responsible for the inputs you provide and the resulting outputs. You must ensure that your inputs do not infringe upon any rights and that you have all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions for your inputs.
Accuracy:
Using the services may result in inaccurate or incorrect results. It is important to critically evaluate the results. Different sources should be used to verify the outcome. Your inputs are not stored by HWR Berlin, but by OpenAI in accordance with their terms of service, and they will be deleted accordingly. Your inputs are not used to make the product safer or better.
Specific Provisions:
When using generative AI systems, please refer to the guidelines for AI-based applications at HWR Berlin and the suggested wording for declarations of independence when using AI at https://ki.hwr-berlin.de.
For students:
- Use HAWKI to support your learning process, but do not rely solely on the generated answers.
- Do not share personal data or information through HAWKI, including others’ personal data.
- You retain authorship. This means you are responsible for the quality of the response and take full responsibility for its content. The use of AI and the nature of its contribution must be disclosed.
For faculty:
- HAWKI must not be used to correct student assignments.
- Use HAWKI as a supplementary tool for preparing teaching materials and preparing graded exams, but ensure that all content is checked for accuracy, third-party rights, and relevance. The personal data of students must never be entered into the AI.
For staff:
- It is strictly prohibited to input confidential contracts or documents intended for internal use into HAWKI. Documents containing personal data about yourself or others should also not be entered into the AI. This includes identification data and any data that could be used to trace individuals. For example, data related to personnel matters, health data, or similar should not be entered.
- Use HAWKI to improve efficiency and support your daily tasks while always complying with the university’s data protection guidelines.
This guide serves as an orientation for the responsible use of HAWKI. All users must understand and follow the outlined provisions to ensure the safe and ethical use of this technology. The university can only offer this service if you do not input personal data. If you have any questions or uncertainties, please contact the E-Learning Center of HWR Berlin.
