Information on Data Processing

Purposes of Processing

Personal data is processed for the following purposes:

  • Conducting surveys as part of the research project
  • Collection of survey data related to the questions
  • Invitation and contact to workshops and inquiries as part of the INSPIRER project using the conference systems Jitsi, BigBlueButton and Microsoft Teams.

Legal basis for processing

The legal basis for processing is the consent of the lecturer or student to data processing in accordance with Article 6 Paragraph 1 Letter a GDPR. There is neither a contractual nor a legal obligation to provide the data. Consent is voluntary. The lawfulness of the processing remains unaffected until the consent is revoked.

Types and Categories of Personal Data We Process

  • Last name, first name, age
  • Residence
  • Survey content data (questions on individual subject areas)
  • image and sound recordings

Deletion Periods

We will delete the personal data in September 2025.

In addition, the data will be deleted as soon as the user exercises his right to revoke his consent.

  1. Place of Processing

The data processing takes place in Germany.

  1. Recipients of the personal data and transfer of the data to a third country or an international organization

Data is not transmitted to third parties outside the university (external recipients).

However, the survey results are transmitted completely anonymously to the research project partners and the funding bodies of the research project (BMBF). The project partners are currently:

  1. University of Applied Sciences Berlin
  2. Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR)
  3. Berlin University of Technology
  4. Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences
  5. Competence center for virtual reality and cooperative engine
  6. Point Cloud Technology GmbH
  7. Women’s Computer Center Berlin e. V
  8. City of Fellbach

Within the university (internal recipients), the data can be processed by the respective project participants at the university.

Data is not transferred to a third country or an international organization.

  1. Order Processing

The data provided voluntarily are processed under the responsibility of HWR Berlin. We use a contract processor to carry out the processing.

The HWR Berlin is the contact person for those affected and is responsible for compliance with data protection regulations.

The processor provides the web application, the databases, servers and the maintenance of the application. It is a matter of:

General Information on Data Processing

  1. Rights of the data subject

The person affected by the processing has rights in accordance with Art. 13 – 23 GDPR, which can be asserted against the HWR Berlin. An overview of the most important rights is listed below:

  • Information obligation when collecting personal data according to Art. 13 DSGVO
  • Information obligation if the personal data was not collected from the person concerned according to Art. 14 DSGVO
  • Right to information about data stored by the person responsible (HWR Berlin) according to Art. 15 DSGVO
  • Right to correction of data stored by the person responsible (HWR Berlin) according to Art. 16 DSGVO
  • Right to erasure of data stored by the person responsible (HWR Berlin) in accordance with Art. 17 GDPR
  • Right to restriction of processing of data stored by the person responsible (HWR Berlin) in accordance with Article 18 GDPR
  • Notification obligation in connection with the correction or deletion of personal data or the restriction of processing according to Art. 19 DSGVO
  • Right to data portability according to Art. 20 GDPR
  • Right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing – including profiling – which produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you.
  • Right to notification according to Art. 34 GDPR of the person affected by a breach of the protection of personal data.
